Origin of the Mohr name
Mohr comes from Middle High German mōr, "Moor". It was a nickname for a man with very dark hair or a dark complexion, or a house name, since many medieval town houses and inns had a Moor's head as their sign. In northern Germany the same spelling sometimes comes from mōr, "marsh, moor", for someone living by wet ground. Mohr is common in the Rhineland and the south-west.
